How do you pass the red/blue buff to a team mate?

In some guides and videos, they mention passing a buff to someone in your team (for example, if you're a jungler). How do you do that? One thing I've heard is that you deliberately die to an enemy champion, who then gets killed by the person you want the buff transferred to. Is it really the only way?

No, you can damage the Golem (blue buff) for alot of damage, but don't kill it, a teammate can then kill the Golem and recieve the buff.

The only way to obtain a buff is by killing the monster that has it, or by killing a champion that has it (exception to the latter being the Baron buff). As Shnooshnooki indicates, you can't 'pass it on' to a team mate directly.

Hehe, though that happens sometimes unintentionally and is often commented by a cheeky "Buff transfer complete" comment in /all-chat, it's not the preferred way.

You just damage the Blue golem so much that your mid lane can easily use one ability to instantly kill it over the wall.
Just be careful that damage over time (like Darius' passive or Red Buff procs), Wriggle's procs or the Bladed Armor mastery don't steal it.

But what usually happens in Solo Queue is: You spam ping the Buff, damage it and tank that thing for far too long while your midlane doesn't move their fat butt, so you just kill it yourself and take the buff anyway.
