you cannot see it.

pwn a high elo when you are low elo = gain alot of elo
pwn a low elo when you are high elo = gain a little elo
loose to a low elo when you are high elo = loose tons of elo
loose to a high elo when you are low elo = loose a little elo

simple stuff

Its just a way for the game to match you up with similar skill people.

If you have a team of ELO of say 1000 and you beat someone with ELO 1500 you gain a lot of ELO. If you beat some team with an ELO of 800 you are clearly better than them so you would be expected to win - because of this you would gain less ELO.

ELO is hidden for all but the top players.

I believe it tries to match teams closely in terms of ELO.

Nothing more to it than that really...

When people say high ELO they mean good players.

Hi, for more information on ELO:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system

Its the system that Riot chose League of Legends to use to determine how you are matched against other players.

When people talk about low elo, mid elo or high elo. This generally means what category you are considered to fall upon.

Low ELO players are generally newbies and noobs

Mid ELO players are players that have grasped the basics and understand how to build items and their champions effectively and work with their teammates. They use common sense and are wary of their surroundings.

High ELO players are the better players that are usually the top % of players. These guys usually fully understand every champion, what items to get against a champion. Can effectively play their character to the best of their ability and more. These guys are a force to be reckoned with. (Except Wickd hes a noob)

ELO rating is what the matchmaker is based on. The normal ELO is an invisible ladder so to speak. The matchmaker tries to put together two teams that have an average ELO as close to equal as possible, and the difference will increase over time.

You gain ELO by winning and lose ELO by losing.

If you regularly queue dodge in ranked, you've got bigger problems than ELO loss coming up...
