Well then chaps, it's been 17 months since I first made this thread detailing how to play ARAM successfully on Summoner's Rift and that must have been about 6 months into playing arams, so you could say, it's been two years since the ARAM Nation became a great game culture within League of Legends.
As we all know, people enjoy ARAM because it's a great mix bag of champs, it's great practice at learning who and how to effectively poke and avoid, cause and avoid damage, learning how to teamfight and generally having instant action and fun.
So what brings me to revive this post? Because we now have matchmaking! For those of you who were unware, RIOT had been testing the Howling Abyss on the PBE, I even got to play a fair few games so I've had the pleasure of playing it, and let me tell you, it's exactly what all us ARAM players have been wishing for! No more dodgers, more games, less waiting!
Now I would also like to take this opportunity to thank RIOT, it's surprising to say that I've been playing ARAM for potentially 2 years now and of course playing this game longer and it's great, no fantastic to see that RIOT do want us to have more fun so here's my my thanks and I'm sure many more will say thank you too!
To wrap everything up, I've quoted the old rules just to keep record and show you all how ARAM has progressed, have fun playing!
I would just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone what the standard ARAM rules are and thankfully, there's a thread over in the NA forums detailing these rules and I quote: -
This guide is to help bring together a standard of rules, a building block of rules for ARAM. To help new players have a understanding of what this crazy ARAM thing is!
(Disclaimer) This guide is a a collection of common standards / rules used when playing a "standard rules" ARAM that reflects current EUW trending, any differences between EUW and NA rules can be considered and at any time before the host starts the game he/she can change any given rule, add to or take away. No Rules are set in stone except if the host declares the rule before start of the game.
ARAM is a custom game which means All Random All Mid. Meaning all 5 players from both teams meet in the middle of the map, not allowed to enter Jungle and not allowed to leave, recalling/going back to base unless you die. Certain Items are not allowed which will be explained.
What are the rules to ARAM?
Items typically not allowed:
There are four items which are not allowed to be purchased. The three "Snow Ball" Items, Mejais Soulstealer, Leviathan, Sword of the Occult and Gaurdians Angel are NOT allowed.
Summoner skills NOT allowed:
Revive, Teleport, Promote.
Laning: While laning going into the jungle, Bush/Grass or teleporting back to base is NOT allowed. The only Time you can go back to base to heal or purchase items is if you have died.
While laning you can fall back as far back as you need to while being chased or to keep from being attacked but not returning all the way back.
Minions / Farming: It is considered cheating if you pull or farm anything other then minions from the mid lane such as neutral minions.
Simple No Back Rule = not returning to base to purchase or heal
Suicide: Global suicide should not be allowed such as Twisted Fate teleporting himself to suicide.
Suicide to a tower or minions in the mid lane is frowned upon and generally is not accepted although accidents happen and as such, being executed means you may not buy items.
You can not enter the bushes either side of the mid lane, this is considered leaving the lane.
Middle Lane = The path in which Minions travel from one base to another base. Leaving that lane to far out of fog of war is considered cheating. Using the edges of corners is typically acceptable. It is considered leaving MID if you go around the tree's on bottom or top of in base.
Good Rule of Thumb = if you are standing in mid lane and you can not see your enemy going around objects to get behind you or attack through walls unnoticed that is typically not acceptable.
Defending in base: MID LANE still apply while in base so if you are defending your base you must try and stay within the lane in which the minions travel, going past the trees on the top or bottom is considered cheating because it involves minions and towers from lanes which are not MID.
** Top tower in base**
You can NOT defend top tower in base.
** Bottom tower in base**
you can NOT defend bottom tower in base.
** Top inhibitor**
ONLY when the tower has fallen may you defend the top inhibitor.
** Bottom inhibitor**
ONLY when the bottom tower has fallen may you defend the bottom inhibitor.
Assaulting in base: Staying in lane not intentionally pulling top or bottom minion waves, not attacking top or bottom tower or inhibs.
** TOP/BOTTOM tower and inhibitor at entrance of base**
You are NOT allowed to attack the Tower or Inhibitors at the Entrance of the Base.
You are ONLY allowed to attack mid towers and inhibitors.
[EDIT 14/05/2012] It has come to my attention that a lot of players are "Healing when inhib is down" even if the host hasn't said it's ok prior ot match start so it looks like I may have to change the standard rule regarding this, please discuss your thoughts and comments regarding this.
[EDIT 02/07/2012] As of recently, Riot have done a tramendous job of brining in the Proving Grounds map. This is a really huge testament to the popularity of ARAM and now also gives more opportunities for other games to be played.
Since the release of Proving Grounds, these rules have also become largely redundant however I'll leave them intact incase anyone does want a classic ARAM. I would also like to note that buying when executed is still not allowed unless the community decide that it's fine.
